Sunroom

Overview

A creator economy run by women for women.

Sunroom is a Los Angeles based and women-run consumer social startup whose mission is to foster "a new culture around content monetization, one that empowers creators to get out of their head and into their bag." As of August 2025, Sunroom has been acquired by the creator monetization platform Fanfix.

My role

This was my first design internship.

I was drawn to Sunroom because of its founder Lucy Mort, the designer who led the famous re-design of Hinge. It was my dream as a student to work for a social consumer company, and my time at Sunroom introduced me to the world of start-ups.

My work

At Sunroom, I was a design generalist.

I worked on a number of features, including re-designing Sunroom's in-app currency (Sunbeams), creating brand sheets/graphic assets for feature launches, and interviewing Sunroom power users. I truly got to touch every aspect of the product from end to end.

I implemented a new in-app currency during my time at Sunroom.`.

I'll always be grateful to Lucy and the Sunroom team for kicking off my working design experience and showing me the ropes. I gained insights on being a founder, became familiar with engineer handoff, and constantly learned new tools in order to fulfill the workload that came with being the only other designer on the team.
